Provide comprehensive and therapeutic psychiatric care to patients and their families.
Formulate and implement plan of care which may involve various treatment modalities.
Prescribe medications and surveillance of medical regimens for stabilized chronically mentally ill persons, recognizing when to refer the patient to physician or other health care team member.
Use an Electronic Health Record system to obtain patient information, document care, order lab tests and medications.

Education : Degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by the applicant.

AND

Registration : Applicants must have active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

Qualifications
GS-12 Minimum Qualifications: One year of specialized experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal Government.
Specialized Experience at the GS-11 is defined as serving as a Nurse Practitioner providing direct and comprehensive primary! , preventative and therapeutic medical and nursing care for all patient! s related to psychiatry as well as prescription writing, counseling and/or coordinating services and participating with other disciplines in reviewing the program.

SELECTIVE FACTOR : In addition to the qualification requirements for the OPM and IHS Excepted Service Qualifications described above, to be rated basically qualified for this position, candidates must possess current, valid, active, unrestricted professional nursing license as a professional nurse from any State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. New graduates must also possess this licensure as indicated with no grace period allowed. Applicants must have certification issued by the appropriate certifying body, the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) or through the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), as a Nurse Practitioner.

This position requires the selected individual to write prescriptions and obtain and! maintain medical staff clinical privileges.
