The full performance level of this vacancy is GS-06. The actual grade at which an applicant may be selected for this vacancy is GS-04- GS-06. U. S. Citizenship DUTIES:
The Sioux Falls VA Health Care System is currently recruiting for a Full-time, Permanent, Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). This posi! tion will be located in the 4th Floor Specialty Clinics, Surgical/Speci! alty Care Service Line. As an LPN, 4th Floor Specialty Clinics, you are responsible for the following duties to include, but not limited to:
Demonstrate knowledge and ability to provide a full range of practical nursing care to patients with a variety of physical and/or behavioral problems to include but not limited to:
Completes vital signs, completes medication reconciliation, medication administration, foley catheter changes,
specimen labeling, ear checks/irrigations for Audiology, assist with joint injections and aspirations,
assist with cast application and removal.
Knowledgeable of reusable medical equipment (RME)
Cross train as scrub nurse in Minor Surgery
Cross train in ENT Clinic
Recognize the need for and institute emergency measures when indicated, promptly seek assistance of the RN or MD/DO, and assist in resuscitation procedures in cardiac and /or pulmonary arrest.
Completed work needs a general review by an RN or physician f! or appropriateness and conformity with established policies and procedures.
Ability to observe, identify and respond to the patientÂ's needs for nursing interventions and recognizes the need to consider emotional, spiritual, socioeconomic and age related factors.
Participate in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of the nursing care that expedites the patient's return to, or maintenance of, optimal functioning.
Possess the ability to assess patientÂ's status and interpret the appropriate information to identify each patientÂ's age-specific needs and to provide the identified care.
Report and record observations and information related to the care of the patient and integrate the use of health care technology into the provision of nursing care.
Establishes constructive relationships with individual patient and their families to elicit feelings and attitudes, and to promote positive relationships, communication and socialization skills! .
Fosters an environment of respect for individual patient and fami! ly rights to privacy and dignity in all aspect of care delivery.
Effectively incorporates knowledge and understanding of established customer service standards in all interactions with patients, family members, and/or other customers.
Actively seeks out education opportunities to enhance nursing knowledge and skills, sharing new knowledge gained with other staff to improve and advance nursing practice.
Manage phone messages for Providers.
Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality.
Work Schedule: The tour of duty for this position is Primarily Day shift. Clinic hours. Weekends and evenings may be required. Flexibility in tours and days of the week will be required.
NOTE: Assignment to other areas of the service line, medical center, or other CBOC's may be required. The LPN reports to the 4th Floor Specialty Care Clinics Nurse Manager and works in collaboration with his/her assigned team, however, assignments may be made to other ! areas for purposes of cross coverage.
Relocation Expenses: Relocation expenses are not authorized for this position. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Basic Requirements:
Citizen of the United States.
Graduate of a school of practical or vocational nursing approved by the appropriate State agency and/or accredited by the National League for Nursing at the time the program was completed by the applicant.
Full, active, current and unrestricted licensure as a licensed practical or vocational nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or District of Columbia.
Must be proficient in spoken and written English.
Grade Determinations:
GS-04: Six months of qualifying experience as an LPN or LVN; or Graduation from an approved school and one year of experience that involved nursing care work in a hospital, outpatient clinic, nursing home, or other supervised medi! cal, nursing, or patient care facility that provided a practical knowle! dge of human body structure and sterile techniques and procedures; or Graduation from an approved school of at least 24 months duration.
GS-05: Completion of at least 1 year of qualifying experience at the GS-4 level or equivalent.
GS-06: Completion of at least 1 year of qualifying experience at the GS-5 level or equivalent.
Applicant's education, experience, and license/certification will be considered by a Professional Standards Board in determining the grade and salary of the applicant selected.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The physical demands of the position include extensive periods of standing and walki! ng and working with patients which requires regular and recurring bending, lifting up to 35 pounds, stooping, stretching, and similar activities.
