U. S. Citizenship DUTIES:
The Sioux Falls VA Health Care System is currently recruiting for a Full-time , Permanent, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) . This position will be located in the Surgical/Specialty Care Service Line. As a CRNA, you are responsible for ! the following duties to include, but not limited to:
Provide anesth! esia services associated with surgical procedures under the supervision of the anesthesiologist.
Perform pre-operative evaluation of patients, intra-operative care of patients
General, and regional anesthesia, post-operative care, emergency airway management, and placement of intravenous catheters and intra-arterial lines.
Assist with quality assurance activities facility wide and specific to the department.
Evaluates practice of self and others using professional standards, relevant statutes and regulations.
Acquires knowledge and skills to maintain expertise in area of practice.
Participates in educational activities to improve clinical knowledge and enhance role performance.
Takes action to improve performance.
Applies the nursing process to systems or processes at the unit/team/work group level to improve care.
Demonstrates leadership by involving others in improving care.
Supports and enhances client self-determination.
Educa! tes colleagues and/or students and serves as a preceptor and/or mentor.
Uses group process to identify, analyze, and resolve care problems.
Serves as a resource for clients and staff in addressing ethical issues.
Identifies and assesses resource utilization and safety issues, taking appropriate action.
Perform and document a pre-anesthetic assessment and evaluation of the patient, including requesting consultations and diagnostic studies; selecting, obtaining, ordering, and administering pre-anesthetic medications and fluids; and obtaining informed consent for anesthesia.
Develop and implement an anesthetic plan that must be authenticated preoperatively by the responsible anesthesiologist, physician, or surgeon.
Initiating the anesthetic technique, which may include general, regional, local, and sedation.
Selecting, applying, and inserting appropriate non-invasive and invasive monitoring modalities for continuous evaluation of the patientÂ's phys! ical status.
Selecting, obtaining, and administering the anesthetic! s, adjuvant and accessory drugs, and fluids necessary to manage the anesthetic.
Perioperatively manage a patientÂ's cardiopulmonary status, using current practice modalities.
Facilitating emergence and recovery from anesthesia by selecting, obtaining, ordering, and administering medications, fluids and ventilator support.
Discharging the patient from a post-anesthesia care area using established criteria and providing post-anesthesia follow-up evaluation and care.
Responding to emergency situations by providing airway management, administration of emergency fluids and drugs, and using basic or advanced cardiac life support techniques.
Incumbent will be able to set up or reprocess Reusable Medical Equipment (RME) as applicable and be certified annually on the specific equipment for which they are responsible.
Must be proficient and demonstrate competency and the ability to either set up or reprocess Reusable Medical Equipment as applicable for all equ! ipment for which you have been trained.

NOTE: Assignment to other areas of the service line, medical center, or other CBOC's may be required.

The CRNA reports to the Chief, Anesthesiologist and works in collaboration with his/her assigned team, however,assignments may be made to other areas for purposes of cross coverage.

Work Schedule: The tour of duty for this position is primarily Day Shift . Rotating shifts will be required. Weekends, Nights, and Holidays will be required. Call will be required at a minimum of every third or fourth day and every third or fourth weekend (Fri 3pm till Mon 8am). Call on Holidays - holidays will be rotated with other CRNAÂ's on staff. Additional information regarding the work schedule of this position will be discussed during the interview process.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Citize! n of the United States.
Education: A degree in nursing from ! a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate state-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC), or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, and unrestricted registration and the possession of a Certificate from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (CGFNS) will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing.
Graduate of an accredited nurse anesthesia educational program approved by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA) at the time the program was completed by the applicant.
Registration: Current, full, active and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Pu! erto Rico) of the United States or the District of Columbia.
Certification: Certification by the Council on Certification of Nurse Anesthetists.

Must be proficient in spoken and written English.
Applicant's education and length of practice (experience) will be considered by a Professional Standards Board in determining the grade and salary of the applicant selected. The recommended salary may be at any point in the range listed for this vacancy.

REQUIREMENTS:
Periods of long standing, repositioning, assisting patients on surgery table and also during transfers. Occasional lifting of moderately heavy objects and pushing! /pulling of patient transport carts. Long periods of sitting at a compu! ter station. Rigid deadlines and the need for high degree of accuracy, high stress situations, and the ability to adapt work plans based on patient status.
