U. S. Citizenship DUTIES:
The Sioux Falls VA Health Care System is currently recruiting for a Full-time , Permanent, Medical Technologist . This position will be located in the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Service (P&LMS) . The incumbent serves a! s a generalist in medical technology with responsibility for performing! procedures in the areas of Specimen Collection, Chemistry, Hematology/Coagulation, Urinalysis, Immunohematology, and Microbiology. As a Medical Technologist, you are responsible for the following duties to include, but not limited to:
Performs test procedures using manual and/or instrument techniques.
Performs quality control procedures on equipment, reagents, and products and maintains proper records for quality control reports.
Calibrates, standardizes, adjusts and maintains instruments.
Performs venipunctures and arterial punctures for specimen collection.
Work Schedule: The tour of duty for this position is Midnight Shift, 11:30p.m. - 7:30a.m. Monday - Friday with rotating holidays.
Relocation Expenses: Relocation expenses are not authorized for this position. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Education/Experience requirement:
- Applicants must possess an associate's degree in laboratory science or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution AND possess at least 3 years of directly related, full time work experience; OR
- Applicants must have completed an equivalent program composed of at least 60 semester hours, from an accredited institution that, at a minimum, includes either: (a) 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses; or (b) 24 semester hours of science courses that include 6 semester hours of chemistry; 6 semester hours of biology, and 12 semester hours of chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology in any combination; and have laboratory training that includes completion of a NAACLS approved clinical laboratory training program with at least 3 months documented laboratory training in each specialty that the individual performs high complexity testi! ng in, AND possess at least 3 years of directly related, full time work! experience.
Certification:
- All candidates must currently possess or be eligible for and pass within one year the appropriate certification examination as a medical technologist or clinical laboratory scientist given by the American Society of Clinical Pathology Board of Registry (ASCP-BOR), the National Credentialing Agency (NCA), American Association of Clinical Chemists (AACC), American Medical Technologists (AMT), or the American Association of Bioanalysts (AAB).

- One year of experience comparable to the next lower grade level, OR
- A bachelor's degree in medical technology/clinical laboratory science or a related science, and completion of a medical technology clinical practice program approved by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS).
- A bachelor's degree in medical technology/clinical laboratory science or in a related science, and completion of a medical technology clinical practice program approved by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) is required at the GS-9 level, AND either (a) or (b) below:
(b) 2 years of progressively higher-level gradu! ate education leading to a master's degree in medical technology or dir! ectly related field, or equivalent graduate degree.
Grade Determinations:
NOTE: The full performance level of this vacancy is 09. The actual grade at which an applicant may be selected for this vacancy is 05-09. The Professional Standards Board (a peer-review group) will review the selected candidateÂ's qualifications and recommend the grade and step at which the candidate will be placed. The salary is based on the grade and step approved for the selected candidate.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The work consists of both desk, standing and physical exertion. There will be walking, bending, standing, retrieving items from shelves and cabinets and carrying moderately heav! y items such as bulk reagents and equipment. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
