Detailed specification about this occupation opportunity please read the description below. This is a PRN (as needed) postiion working in the Needs Assesment area at Sanford Health. Must be a licensed MH counselor or MSW-PIP and 5 years of counseling experience required; credentialed in CISD preferred; Independent, autonomous worker; available for nighttime on-call and able to respond on site to urgent calls within 30 minutes.
The Mental Health Counselor (MS) serves as a member of the IDT in various settings, including but not limited to the ED and the inpatient nursing units. Services are provided 24/7 either with scheduled hours or “on callâ€. The Needs Assessment Counselor provides assistance to patient populations with social, economic, developmental, emotional and related issues. Also provides the psychiatrist with inpatient consultative services. Referrals to the service are made by physician or other healthcare professionals. The Needs Assessment Counselor develops programs and services to meet the needs of various populations as described below. The Needs Assessment Counselor develops the psycho-social plan of care in collaboration with the IDT, and provides clinical screening, assessment and referral services to meet the needs of various patient populations (i.e., oncology, detox, post-partum, bariatrics, other) with mental health/counseling needs; provides case management functions for appropriate populations; designs plan of care and provides follow-up; and coordinates care conferences. The Needs Assessment Counselor works with all age groups and families, including children, adolescents, adults and geriatrics.
Required Skills
College level reading and comprehension, writing and mathematical skills. Basic knowledge and skill applying principles of abnormal psychology and mental health problems; familiarity with psychological, sociological and medical terminology; skills in analyzing and evaluating information; problem-solving skills; excellent oral communication skills, legible handwriting; ability to concentrate on tasks and meet deadlines; ability to confidentially maintain all information; basic data entry skills preferred, including some experience using computer; organization and time management skills; skills in dealing courteously with the public and individuals within the organization; crisis management skills; persuasive skills with prospective patients and family members who demonstrate denial or resistance to treatment, within context of appropriate clinical interventions. Must be able to work with growth and development needs of client populations from infants to geriatric age groups. Ability to present public presentations, screening, etc. on a variety of mental health topics.
Required Experience
MSW, MA, MS or greater required.
South Dakota license (SW, LPC, LPCMH, CSW-PIP or equivalent) to treat mental pathology is preferred.
