U. S. Citizenship DUTIES:
The Sioux Falls VA Health Care System is currently recruiting for a Full-time , Permanent, Registered Nurse . This position will be located in the Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) in the Primary and Specialty Medicine Service Line. Nursing care is the dynamic and skilled application of a systematic body of knowledge to the diagnosis and treatment of actual or potential health problems. The nursing process encompasses all significant action taken by the nurse in providing care and forms the foundation of clinical decision-making. Nursing care must be individualized to meet a part! icular patientÂ's unique needs and situations. Several themes cut acros! s all areas of nursing practice and reflect nursing responsibilities for all patients. These themes provide an additional dimension for attention that includes:
Providing population specific and culturally and ethnically sensitive care.
Maintaining a safe environment.
Educating patients about healthy practices and treatment modalities.
Assuring continuity of care.
Coordinating the care across settings and among caregivers.
Managing information.
Communicating effectively.
Demonstrating skill/knowledge/ability to perform treatments, procedures and the use and reprocessing of reusable medical equipment appropriate to assigned duties.
The nurse establishes a partnership with the patient, family, and other health care providers. In this partnership, the nurse works collaboratively to coordinate the care provided to the patient. The degree of participation by the veteran patient, the family, or the significant others will vary based upon their ! preference and ability. The nurse serves as a patient advocate. All nurses are expected to engage in professional role activities appropriate to their education, position, and practice setting. Each registered nurse facilitates the Â"Mission, Vision and ValuesÂ" statements of the organization. Integral to these statements is the promotion of interdisciplinary, outcome-based practice; customer service and satisfaction; and quality of care for those we serve. Ultimately, the nurse is accountable to self, the patient, peers, and immediate supervisor for his/her professional actions.
NOTE: Assignment to other areas of the service line, medical center, or other CBOC's may be required. The Registered Nurse reports to the Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) Nurse Manager and works in collaboration with his/her assigned CORE team, however, assignments may be made to other areas for purposes of cross coverage.
Work Schedule: The tour of duty for this position! is Monday - Friday, days, with possibility of weekend day shifts.
! Relocation Expenses: Relocation expenses are not authorized for this position. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Citizen of the United States.
Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia. In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing.
Must be proficient in spoken and written English.
App! licant's education and length of nursing practice (experience) will be considered by a Nurse Professional Standards Board in determining the grade and salary of the applicant selected. The recommended salary may be at any point in the range listed for this vacancy. Experience as an RN will be evaluated to determine if the experience is of an acceptable level of quality with regard to the following four dimensions of nursing: Practice, Professional Development, Collaboration and Scientific Inquiry. Each dimension of practice has criteria that demonstrate essential core competencies for VHA Nursing Personnel. The criteria are as follows: Practice: practice, ethics and resource utilization, Professional Development: performance, education/career development, Collaboration: collaboration, collegiality, Scientific Inquiry: quality of care, research.
Education/Experience Minimum Requirements:
 Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing! , no experience.
 Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing! and approximately 1 year of experience, or an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field and no experience; or a Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) and no experience.
 Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of experience, or an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelors degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of experience; or a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of experience, or a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no experience.
 Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of experience, or ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelors degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 years experience or a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 years experience, or a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no experience.
 Nurse III - M! aster's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 years experience or Doctoral degree in nursing or related field and approximately 2-3 years experience.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The work requires some standing, walking, bending, lifting, and carrying of light items. The work requires agility and dexterity and may require heavy lifting of equipment or patients. In many situations, the duration of the activity (such as most of a workday) contributes to the arduous nature of the job. Duties require extensive periods of standing and walking.
