The Sioux Falls VA Health Care System is currently recruiting for a Part-Time, Not To Exceed 40 hours per pay period , Permanent, Days, Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) - Telehealth. This! position will be located in Aberdeen, SD at the Community Based Outrea! ch Clinic (CBOC). This position will be under the Chief of Staff Office. The Licensed Practical Nurse works under the direction of an RN and reports to the Facility Telehealth Coordinator. The LPN demonstrates professional behavior (i.e., respect, civility, ability to accept constructive criticism), effective communication and interpersonal skills. The LPN is part of a team of health care professionals. As an LPN, you are responsible for the following main duties to include, but are not limited to:
Responsible for the patient site clinical, business, scheduling and technical aspects for real-time telehealth applications.
Installs, maintains, inventories and trains staff on all video-conferencing technologies, telehealth peripherals including stethoscopes, otoscopes, ultrasound, Doppler's technology and scheduling software used to coordinate, manage resources and connect staff, resources, patients and providers in the manner effective to delivery of services, patient! care, education and training.
Provides clinical technology information and training to patients, staff, and providers regarding Telehealth, Education and Training processes.
Opens the telehealth patient room, readies the equipment for the examination or education and establishes the online, video conferencing or other connections.
Creates the appropriate clinical and/or training setting/environment using interactive technology and is knowledgeable of adult learning using interactive technology and maximizing environments to support such activity.
Coordinates information between facilities to expedite patient telehealth modality to access, promote and ensure maximum of continuity of care.
Is the point of contact for both outpatient and inpatient referrals requiring telehealth services.
Synchronizes telehealth modalities with medical staff, patients, facilities, telehealth services, and emergency services.
Schedules, confirms and coordinates teleh! ealth services of inpatients and outpatients to/from Facility to Facili! ty, CBOC to CBOC etc and private facilities including nursing homes, hospitals and clinics. Coordinates clinics with physicians and their schedulers, maintaining Telehealth schedules with physicianÂ's schedules.
Reviews each telehealth encounter planned for needed resources (e.g. video conferencing, clinical peripherals, tele-presenter, scheduling, medical equipment, telehealth environment) to ensure resources are appropriate and meet safety requirements for the patient telehealth encounter.
Participates in performance improvement activities aimed at improving the efficiency of the patient telehealth processes.
Coordinates telehealth arrangements for patients requiring specialized or emergent travel.
Coordinates with the telehealth facility coordinator administration and nursing supervisor and/or their designee to ensure timeliness and resources availability.
Administers the patient satisfaction survey.
Incumbent performs telehealth imaging, includin! g tele-retinal screening, tele-dermatology, tele-wound care imaging and other telehealth programming as technology becomes available, as identified and referred by the primary care provider, other providers, and the imager.
Images will be placed in the patient's electronic medical record.
For retinal imaging the imager will obtain multiple digital external and nonmydriatic retinal images.
The imager will document all clinical information in the electronic medical record.
Successfully completes all training programs for imagers.
Provides administrative support for telehealth programs.
Assists with the screening of patients to identify and schedule patients for digital imaging.
Assists in patient care under the direct supervision of an independent licensed healthcare provider that may include but are not limited to: performing temperature, blood pressure, respiratory rate, oxygen saturation measurements, measuring height and weight, and patient tra! nsfers in support of the primary care or specialty clinics.
Support! all clinical telehealth helpdesk functions and respond as necessary to emergency and troubleshooting needs.
Cleans, performs routine minor maintenance, and requests service for all Telehealth technology.
Responsible for the day-to-day operation of the video conferencing, training, Telehealth clinics.
Provides general clerical/administrative support coordination work for the unit.
Manages administrative functions for the office.
Receives all telephone calls and visitors to the clinic.
Work Schedule: The tour of duty for this position is Monday - Friday, Administrative hours- between the hours of 7:30am and 4:00pm to equal 40 hours every 2 weeks. Travel to Sioux Falls VA or other CBOC locations may be required.
Relocation Expenses: Relocation expenses are NOT authorized for this position. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Basic Requirements:
Citizen of the United States.
Graduate of a school of practical or vocational ! nursing approved by the appropriate State agency and/or accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) at the time the program was completed by the applicant.
Applicant must possess and maintain a full, active, current, and unrestricted license as a licensed practical or vocational nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth of the United States or in the District of Columbia.
Must be proficient in spoken and written English.
Grade Requirements:GS-3:
- None beyond the Basic Requirements.
- Six months of qualifying experience as an LPN or LVN; OR
- Graduation from an approved school and one year of experience that involved nursing care work in a hospital, outpatient clinic, nursing home, or other supervised medical, nursing, or patient care facility that provided a practical knowledge of human body structure and sterile techni! ques and procedures; OR
- Graduation from an approved school of ! at least 24 months duration.
- Completion of at least 1 year of qualifying experience at the GS-4 level or equivalent.
- Completion of at least 1 year of qualifying experience at the GS-5 level or equivalent.
Note: The full performance level of this vacancy is 06. The actual grade at which an applicant may be selected for this vacancy is in the range of 03 to 06. The Professional Standards Board (a peer-review group) will review the selected candidateÂ's education and experience and recommend the grade and step at which the candidate will be placed. The salary is based on the grade and step approved for the selected candidate.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The work requires some standing, walking, bending, climbing stairs, lifting, carrying of light items but is mainly a sedentary position consisting of computer entry, answering phones, and teleconferencing. Duties may require extensive periods of standing and walking occassionally and may also require pushing, pulling or lifting of Telehealth equipment. In many situations, the duration of the activity (such as most of a workday) contributes to the arduous nature of the job.
