DUTIES:
The Sioux Falls VA Health Care System is currently recruiting for a

Full-time, Temporary, Food Service Worker

. This is a temporary position not to exceed 13 months. This position may be extended or converted to a permanent position without further competitive procedures.

This position will be located in the

Veterans Canteen Service food operations

. As a

Food Service Worker

, you are responsible for the following duties to include, but not limited to:

The selected individual will assist with the preparation, presentation, and serving of food items.

The incumbent will assure all food items, paper goods, forks, knives, etc. are stocked/maintained in preparation for the daily operation of assigned shops/area! s.

Will assist with unloading food from delivery trucks, recei! ving & storing of food deliveries. Will comply with safety rules & health provisions addressing sanitation & food handling.

Cleans tables, removes trash, cleans machines, dishes, dishwashers, dispensers, refrigerators, walk-in freezers, displays cases, mixers, etc.

May be assigned to the Food Court; individual will assist with catering and will be required to operate a cash register in accordance with operating standards & instructions.

Will prepare nourishment for patients in the hospital, nursing home units, and domiciliary. The employee must determine the types and quantity of nourishment to prepare by reading worksheets and labels. Maintains accurate records of the amount of floor stock delivered to patient units.

Will assemble trays to patients' bedside/dining room tables during regularly scheduled meal times. Transports delayed meal to designated patient ward areas.

Collects soiled trays form the patients bedside.

! May deliver individually prepared nourishment and/or tube feeding formula to nurses' stations or patients' bedside.

Other duties as assigned.

WORK SCHEDULE

: Range of tours from 5:30AM-7:30PM including weekends and holidays; flexibility in day and tour of duty will be required.

: Relocation expenses are not authorized for this position.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume.

EXPERIENCE

: Experience could be in a restaurant, cafeteria or institutional kitchen and must demonstrate the ability to follow directions, know! ledge of basic arithmetic, set-up and serve food, sanitize a kitchen, a! nd sweep, mop and buff floors.

You will be rated on the following Job Elements for this position:

Ability to perform the duties of the position without more than normal supervision.

Work practices, cleanliness, neatness and sanitation in food service work.

Ability to read, understand and follow food preparation and serving instructional material.

Knowledge of food preparation and serving ingredients.

Dexterity and safety in food service work.

The work is performed in a kitchen area in above average temperatures and high humidity conditions. The work area is well lighted but usually noisy from food service activities. This work requires continuous standing, walking and frequent stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, and bending. Frequently lifts or moves objects weighing up to 50 pounds unassisted, occasionally lifts or moves objects weighing over 50 pounds with assistance of lifting devices or other coworkers. The selected individual may be performing such work as scrubbing large cooking utensils. Sweeping and mopping floors are performed. The selected individual may be exposed to freezer/refrigeration temperature extremes; working around wet/slippery floors.
