The Sioux Falls VA Health Care System is a Joint Commission accredited, Level-2 facility and health care system which includes the main hospital located at 2501 West 22nd Street, Sioux Falls, SD and five community based outpatient clinics located in South Dakota and Iowa. The Sioux Falls VA Health Care System enjoys an academic affiliation with the Sanford School of Medicine at the University of South Dakota. The Medical Center oversees the provision of health care provided to 28,000 Veterans living in 35 counties in eastern South Dakota, 2 counties in southwestern Minnesota and 10 cou! nties in northwestern Iowa, with an estimated 271,000 annual o! utpatient visits, and an operating budget of $185 million. The Sioux Falls Veterans Benefits Administration Regional Office is co-located with the medical center.
Comprehensive health care is provided through primary care and long-term care in areas of medicine and medicine specialties, surgery/ surgical specialities, psychiatry, physical medicine and rehabilitation, neurology, oncology, dentistry, geriatrics and extended care.
The medical center has 40 medical/surgery and psychiatry operating beds, with a full complement of inpatient and outpatient medical, surgical, and mental health services, and an onsite Community Living Center (CLC) of 58 operating beds, providing extended care with a rehabilitation emphasis.
The medical center consists of approximately 500,000 gross square feet. On-going construction projects include improvement of patient rooms to increase privacy and satisfaction and a new Operating Room Suite addition is scheduled for co! nstruction award later in FY 13. A recent master plan outlined the need for expansion of primary care, specialty care, lab, audiology and dental services. The plan also calls for the construction of Community Living Center cottages to modernize the Center and create a homelike environment for Veterans who reside there. Several minor construction projects are planned over the next few years to implement the concepts outlined by the Master Plan.
The Sioux Falls VA Medical Center is a teaching hospital, providing a full range of patient care services, with state-of-the-art technology as well as education and research. The Sioux Falls VA Healthcare System has an active research program and is primarily affiliated with the Sanford School of Medicine of the University of South Dakota. In conjunction with the affiliate, residency training programs exist in internal medicine, psychiatry, and pathology. Associated Health Training is offered in nursing, social work, dietetic! s, and pharmacy.
VA structures its SES positions into pay band! s.
This is a pay band 2 position and the salary range is $119,554-$173,600
. Exceptions to the salary cap may be considered in certain circumstances.
Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs, a recruitment/ relocation incentive and/ or Appraised Value Offer (formerly Guaranteed Home Buyout)
may
be authorized.

DUTIES:
The Sioux Falls VA Health Care System Director is responsible to the VA Midwest Health Care System (VISN 23) Network Director. The position requires the effective and! economical direction, control, and operation of the VA Health Care System. The responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Providing timely and responsibe decisions to unions and their members on complaints and grievances, and ensures that supervisors are familiar with the negotiated agreement.
Deals with general personnel management policy matters affecting the facility, such matters as; initiating appropriate personnel actions when indicated, resolving differences between key management officials in the system; and identifying and resolving problems which may inhibit accomplishing the patient care mission and public policy objectives.
Develops fiscal year plans that meet the objectives of current and proposed programs.
Develops a balanced financial plan designed to meet realistic needs of the facility and the network.
Allocates available resources to provide the best possible patient care in line with established priorit! ies.
Protects the integrity of the budget, position management! , classification and other processes to ensure compliance with existing statutes.
Demonstrate health system administration skills and maturity of judgment reflecting significant management experience at a highly responsible level in a comparable health care environment.
A large portion of the work involves making decisions and determination for which there are no written precedents. In the multitude of professional and administrative matters involved, consistent use of sound management judgment is required.
