U. S. Citizenship DUTIES:
The Sioux Falls VA Health Care System is currently recruiting for a Full Time , permanent, Social Worker (PACT) . This position will be located in the Primary and Specialty Medicine Service Line. As a Social Worker (PACT) , you are responsible for the following main duties to include, but not limited to:
Provide longitudinal rather than episodic social work care.
Triage and assessment of complex psychosocial issues.
Psychosocial interventions to Veterans and families including but not limited to supportive therapy.
Case management.
Member of interdiscipli! nary team.
Consultation to team on psychosocial issues.
Provide! prevention and health promotion interventions including educational activities.
Provide education and awareness of women's issues.
Work Schedule: The tour of duty for this position is Monday-Friday, Days.
Relocation Expenses: Relocation expenses are NOT authorized for this position.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
Citizen of the United States.
Licensure: Be licensed or certified at the Master's level to independently practice social work.
English Language Proficiency: Social workers must be proficient in spoken and written English.
Education: Have a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the school of social work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may! not be substituted for the master's degree in social work. Verification of the degree can be made by going to the CSWE website ( Council on Social Work Education to verify if that social work degree meets the accreditation standards for a master of social work.
Exception: VA may waive the licensure and/or certification requirement for persons who are otherwise qualified, pending completion of state prerequisites for examination. VA social workers who are not licensed or certified at the time of appointment must be licensed or certified at the Master's level, within 3 years of their appointment as a social worker. Those who fail to obtain state licensure or certification within the required time frames must be removed from the General Schedule (GS)-185 social worker series. This may result in termination of employment.
GRADE DETERMINATIONS:
GS-9: The GS-9 is the entry level grade for the GS-185 social work series and is used for so! cial workers with less than one year of post-MSW experience and for soc! ial workers who are not yet licensed or certified at the independent practice level. Social workers at the GS-9 level are working toward completion of prerequisites for licensure or certification. Applicants eligible for the GS-9 level must meet all basic requirements listed above.
In addition, the candidates must demonstrate the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
Ability to provide psychosocial treatment to a wide variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural, ethnic, educational, and other diversified backgrounds. This requires knowledge of human development and behavior (physical and psychological), and the differential influences of the environment, society, and culture.
Ability to work with patients and families who are experiencing a variety of psychiatric, medical, and social problems utilizing individual, group, and family counseling skills. Work with more complex problems is done under close supervision. With guida! nce from the social work supervisor, ability to assess the psychosocial functioning and needs of patients and their family members, and to formulate and implement a treatment plan, identifying the patientÂ's problems, strengths, weaknesses, coping skills, and assistance needed.
Basic knowledge of psychosocial treatment modalities and, under supervision, ability to implement treatment modalities in working with individuals, families, and groups to achieve treatment goals. This requires judgment and skill in utilizing supportive, problem solving, or crisis intervention techniques.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, staff, and representatives of community agencies. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with people from varied backgrounds.
Knowledge of medical and mental health diagnoses, disabilities, and treatment procedures. This includes acute, chronic, and traumatic illnesses/! injuries; common medications and their effects/side effects; and medica! l terminology.
Basic skill in the use of computer software applications for drafting documents, data management, and tracking. Ability to learn and utilize software programs in use by VHA.
GS-11: In addition to meeting all basic requirements, 1 year of professional social work experience, equivalent to the next lower grade level, under qualified social work supervision. This experience must have been in a clinical setting and must have demonstrated the potential to perform advanced assignments independently.
OR
In addition to meeting basic requirements, a doctoral degree in social work from a school of social work. A doctoral degree in social work from a school of social work may be substituted for the required 1 year of professional social work experience in a clinical setting.
Applicant must be licensed or certified at the Master's level to independently practice social work to be eligible for a GS-11.
In addition, the ca! ndidate must demonstrate the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
Knowledge of community resources, how to make appropriate referrals to community and other governmental agencies for services, and ability to coordinate services.
Ability to independently assess the psychosocial functioning and needs of patients and their family members and to formulate and implement a treatment plan, identifying the patientÂ's problems, strengths, weaknesses, coping skills and assistance needed, in collaboration with the patient, family and interdisciplinary treatment team.
Ability to independently conduct psychosocial assessments and provide psychosocial treatment to a wide variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural, ethnic, educational and other diversified backgrounds. This requires knowledge of human development and behavior (physical and psychological) and the differential influences of the environment, society and culture.
Kn! owledge and experience in the use of medical and mental health diagnose! s, disabilities and treatment procedures. This includes acute, chronic and traumatic illnesses/injuries, common medications and their effects/side effects, and medical terminology.
Knowledge of psychosocial treatment and ability to independently implement treatment modalities in working with individuals, families and groups who are experiencing a variety of psychiatric, medical and social problems to achieve treatment goals. This requires independent judgment and skill in utilizing supportive, problem solving or crisis intervention techniques.
Ability to independently provide counseling and/or psychotherapy services to individuals, groups and families. Social workers must practice within the bounds of their license or certification. For example, some states may require social workers providing psychotherapy to have a clinical level of licensure.
Ability to provide consultation services to other staff about the psychosocial needs of patients and th! e impact of psychosocial problems on health care and compliance with treatment. Ability to provide orientation and coaching to new social workers and social work graduate students. Ability to serve as a field instructor for social work graduate students who are completing VHA field placements.
Ability to independently evaluate his/her own practice through participation in professional peer review case conferences, research studies, or other organized means.
Knowledge and skill in the use of computer software applications for drafting documents, data management, and tracking, especially those programs in use by VHA.
Non-Qualifying Experience: Clinical social work experience obtained prior to completion of the requirements for a Master's Degree in Social Work does not satisfy this requirement. NOTE: A clinical setting is a medical center, clinic (medical or psychiatric), a residential treatment center, or any other type of facility where soci! al work participates in collaborative treatment and is identified with ! the medical profession.
Grade Determinations:
Note: The full performance level of this vacancy is 11. The actual grade at which an applicant may be selected for this vacancy is in the range of 09 to 11. The Professional Standards Board (a peer-review group) will review the selected candidateÂ's education and experience and recommend the grade and step at which the candidate will be placed. The salary is based on the grade and step approved for the selected candidate.
