The Sioux Falls VA Health Care System is currently recruiting for a Full-time , Permanent, Assistant Nurse Manager. This position will be located in the Acute Medical/Surgical Unit in the Primary and Specialty Medicine Service Line. The Assistant Nurse Manager will function in a clinical capacity 50% of their regular tour.
The Assistant Nurse Manager position requires the dedication and commitment of an experienced RN to function in a leadership role that includes b! ut is not limited to:
Supervisor role model, educator and staff dev! elopment of team members encompassing the combined work areas of Acute Medical / Surgical (2 South / 3 South).
The incumbent reports to and takes direction from the Nurse Manager or his/her designee.
The Assistant Nurse Manager will assume the role of the Nurse Manager in short term or long term absences of the Nurse Manager as assigned by ACON.
The Incumbent works in partnership with the health care team in implementing standards of care in accordance with the purpose, philosophy and objectives of nursing while being a positive team player.
Incumbent oversees the orientation of staff to the unit, and ongoing maintenance of staff competencies and education.
The Assistant Nurse Manager position requires excellent interpersonal skills with strong communication skills to include recent leadership experience that included directing others, preparing annual performance appraisals of staff members and demonstrating a history of excellent collaborative relation! ships with physicians and other support services.
The incumbent has responsibility and accountability for managing patient care, patient care programs, and staff activities while supporting the mission, vision and objectives of the Medical Center, the Midwest Network (VISN 23) and the professional standards of the disciplines within the teams through the following activities:
1. Supervising and evaluating day-to-day activities and performance of nursing, other professional and ancillary support staff assign to the unit.
2. Planning and managing clinic staffing to meet patient care needs, achieve cost-effective clinic operations, and meet productivity goals.
3. Collaborating with the interdisciplinary team to continuously improve productivity, efficiency, customer satisfaction and patient care outcomes.
The incumbent will be responsible for facilitating teamwork to accomplish quality care, productivity/efficiency, clinical outcomes and patient satisfactio! n goals and objectives.
Masters prepared preferred.
Five (5) ye! ars of clinical experience (2-3 years of nurse management experience) preferred.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required.
NOTE: Assignment to other areas of the service line, medical center, or other CBOC's may be required; off tour supervisory coverage may be required; flexibility in tours and days of week will be required.
Work Schedule: The tour of duty for this position is Monday - Friday, clinic hours, Weekends and Holidays required on a rotating basis.
Relocation Expenses: Relocation expenses are not authorized for this position. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Citizen of the United States.
Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or The Commission on Collegiate Nurs! ing Education (CCNE).
Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia. In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing.
Must be proficient in spoken and written English.
Applicant's education and length of nursing practice (experience) will be considered by a Nurse Professional Standards Board in determining the grade and salary of the applicant selected. The recommended salary may be at any point in the range listed for this vacancy. Experience as a RN will be evaluated to determine if the experience is of an acceptable level of quality with regard to the following four dimensions of nursing: Practice, Professional Development, Collab! oration and Scientific Inquiry. Each dimension of practice has criteria! that demonstrate essential core competencies for VHA Nursing Personnel. Education/Experience Minimum Requirements:
 Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, no experience.
 Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of experience, or an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field and no experience; or a Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) and no experience.
 Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of experience, or an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelors degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of experience; or a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of experience, or a ! Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no experience.
 Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of experience, or ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelors degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 years experience or a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 years experience, or a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no experience.
 Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 years experience or Doctoral degree in nursing or related field and approximately 2-3 years experience.
