TRAVEL TO MARTIN VET CENTER 2-3 TIMES PER WEEK IS REQUIRED

Readjustment Counseling Service (RCS) is a program of the Department of Veterans Affairs created to provide a broad range of psycho-social services to combat veterans and their family members to assist them in their readjustment to civilian life. RCS provides services to eligible veterans and their family members in "storefront" counseling centers located in the communities. Vet Center services include, but are not limited to: counseling services to combat veterans from all eras, veterans sexually traumatized while on active duty and families of service members killed on active duty. Services are also available to all eligible veterans' family members for issues related to the veteran's military service. The goal of this program is to establish and maintain an outreach program to assist those eligible veterans who have failed to make adequate psychosocial adjustment and re-entry into civilian life.

DUTIES:
The Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) provides counseling to eligible veterans and family members in the Vet Center program. Readjustment counseling includes individual and group counseling over issues of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and related psychological difficulties, marital and family issues, substance abuse, employment, military sexual trauma, homelessness, bereavement, and other issues impacting upon a veteranÂ's ability to successfully re-enter civilian society. The incumbent is responsible for completing a psycho-social assessment and military history within the first three sessions with a client. He/she develops a unique treatment plan that reflects a course of therapeutic intervention addressing the needs identified in the assessment. The therapist maintains and utilizes an effective resource data base that is used to address the needs of the veteran. He/she understands the difficulties inherent in dealing with a bureaucracy, and acts as an advocate serving the best interests of the veteran/family without fostering dependency. The therapist monitors his/her client, watching for signs that indicate the need for crisis intervention. He/she provides/facilitates education to the veteran and family on a variety of health topics. The incumbent exercises a variety of individual and group counseling techniques that are evidence-based in the treatment of readjustment counseling problems. Medical documentation will be timely, and will comply with all applicable policies and regulations.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Basic Requirements:
Citizenship - Be a citizen of the United States.

Education - Hold a masterÂ's degree in marriage and family therapy (MFT) from a program approved by the Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy Education (COAMFTE) or have graduated from a nationally accredited program conferring a comparable mental health degree as specified in the qualification standards of those disciplines (Social Work, Psychiatric Nursing, Psychology and Psychiatry). All additional course work taken to be accepted for MFT licensure must come from a nationally accredited program in one of the above areas. NOTE: If you have a degree from a school that is not currently accredited by COAMFTE but was accredited at the time you received your degree, please provide proof of that programÂ's accreditation.

English Language Proficiency - MFTs must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with VA Handbook 5005, Part II, chapter 3, section A, paragraph 3j.

Licensure - Persons hired or reassigned to MFT positions in the GS-101 series in VHA must hold a full, current and unrestricted license to independently practice marriage and family therapy in a State.

AND

Experience, Education and Licensure. In addition to the basic requirements, the GS-11 full performance level requires completion of a minimum of 1 year of post-masterÂ's degree experience in the field of health care marriage and family therapy work (VA or non-VA experience) and MFT licensure in a state at the independent practice level. NOTE: To be creditable, the experience must have required the use of knowledge, skills, and abilities associated with current professional marriage and family therapy practice.

OR

A doctoral degree in marriage and family therapy or comparable degree in mental health from an accredited training program, and MFT licensure in a state at the independent practice level.
