KEY REQUIREMENTS

DUTIES:
The procedures outlined in AFGE Master Agreement, Article 23, Section 8 will be followed. First consideration will be given to current Sioux Falls VAHCS employees.

TOUR OF DUTY : These positions are for 4 part-time physical therapists, each at 16 hours per pay period. These four positions are temporary positions, Not to Exceed 3 years. The tour of duty is weekends to include day shift and evening shift. Weekends and holidays will be required. Flexibility in tours and days of week will be required. Every other weekend will be required. This position is in the physical therapy department of the Extended Care and Rehab Service Line.

As a Physical Therapist, you are responsible for the following major duties to include, but are not limited to:

Incumbent is responsible for providing assessment and treatment for inpatient and outpatient veterans.

Works effectively with treatment team members, patients, patients' family/significant others, and other health care providers in coordinating the patient's total care.

Effectively communicates in the clinical medical record and other written and/or oral sources to promote positive communication, collaboration and teamwork.

Uses standard and non-standard methods and techniques for evaluating and interpreting a wide variety of physical and psychosocial functional levels and for providing progressive treatment.

Develops and initiates new treatment programs which apply current research findings.

Reads and interprets consults to identify necessary elements and determine appropriateness of referral for assessment and evaluation of patients.

Develops and implements individualized physical therapy treatment programs for patients when clients may have a functional limitation or disability or may be at risk for a disabling condition.

These positions may be non-competitively converted to permanent positions.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
1. Incumbent must possess and maintain a full, active, current, and unrestricted license as a licensed physical therapist in a State, Territory or Commonwealth of the United States or in the District of Columbia.

2. Graduation from a degree program in physical therapy from an approved college or university approved by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE) at the time the program was completed by the applicant.

3. Grade requirements established by VA Handbook 5005.

4. Subject to physical standards established by VA Handbook 5019.

5. Must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by VA Handbook 5005, Part II, chapter 3, Section A, paragraph 3j.

GRADE DETERMINATIONS:
Applicant's education and length of physical therapy practice (experience) will be considered by a Professional Standards Board in determining the grade and salary of the applicant selected. Experience as a Physical Therapist will be evaluated to determine grade and step.

Qualifying experience: Successful physical therapist practice maintaining acceptable standards within a health care setting. To be creditable, experience as a physical therapist must be documented on the application and verified in an employment reference or through other means.
